About
I'm Gabrielle, founder of Somaya Yoga
Originally from Southern California, I moved to the Plateau-des-Petites Roches nestled in the Chartreuse mountains in France in 2023. Living in a place where I was really able to witness the changing of seasons for the first time, I observed the profound impact that these changes have on us and the undeniable link between the human body and the natural world. I soon found out that, according to yogic philosophy, our bodies are not considered separate from a tree or a river - they're all expressions of Prakriti. This allowed me to put words to my feelings of interconnectedness between ourselves, nature, and her cycles.
I have been practicing yoga asana and pranayama since i was a young girl. It has been a precious tool for me, helping guide me through difficult times in life and constantly allowing me to come home to myself. Once I completed my training as a yoga teacher, I knew that I wanted to help others do the same.
I started Somaya Yoga with the goal of reconnecting people to their breath, their bodies, and the cycles of nature around them. In today's culture, we're constantly go go go, in a state of disconnection from our body and from the world around us. Through honoring and celebrating the cycles of nature, we acknowledge a vital fact - that we are profoundly connected to the earth and her cycles. My goal is to help people to slow down and reconnect to their center, and I feel that connecting to nature gives us an invitation to do so, and reminds us that we are simply an expression of nature herself.
